About the Institute
The National Sports Institute was established in 1974 under the Office of Youth and Recreation in response to the need to educate sports administrations, coaches and physical educators.
The Institute, under new arrangement, has now become the academic arm of the PNG Sports Foundation (PNGSF).
The Institute’s core objectives are two-fold:
- To provide qualification and accredited sports courses that will improve the standard of knowledge for teachers, volunteers, coaches, officials and sport administrators.
- To identify and develop talent to the highest standard of sporting excellence in the participation, coaching, officiating and sport administration.
The two programs that carry out the institute’s core objectives are:
- Sports Excellence and Development
- Human Movement Studies
The Institute has quality facilities and effective support services that make it a conducive environment for sport camps, trainings, workshops and competitions.
